I get excited about workout clothes - NOT working out.
I order leggings, sneakers, and a hat because it is a practical accessory and completes my sporty new lifestyle. I convince myself that once I have these things, I will magically be motivated to put in the work. Would you like to know how many times I have used my new accessories to workout? ZERO.
Thankfully, I work in leggings - and organizing is my cardio.
This is the same thing that happens with new organizing products. We get excited and buy the bins, drawer inserts, and label clips because they are a practical accessory that completes our organized new lifestyle. Sound familiar?
Here’s a step by step process to follow when organizing a space. (Spoiler alert: Product comes LAST.)
Let’s use your pantry as an example:
Prep: Take everything out and create zones placing like items together: Baking, Breakfast, Canned Goods, Pasta, Snacks, etc.
Purge: Have a trash bag handy and box for donate. Sort through each category until you are left only with what you want to keep. Check expiration dates and discard any food out of date. Donate anything your family didn’t love and is taking up valuable space.
Plan: Access the volume of each category and take measurements of your space. If you want to decant your sugar purchase an airtight container that has the correct volume. If your shelves are 16 inches deep make sure the bin you are purchasing has a similar depth.
When you know exactly what will fit where place your order! Following the steps and putting in the work will give you that Pinterest pantry look and flow that will be easy to maintain.
